Week Seventy-five

“If you pay attention at every moment, you form a new relationship to time. In some magical way, by slowing down, you become more efficient, productive, and energetic, focusing without distraction directly on the task in front of you. Not only do you become immersed in the moment, you become that moment.”  – Michael Ray

I received the above quote at exactly the right week! I had been feeling out of step with the rest of the world and a bit off-balance. But, last week, I realized that I need to set my own pace – mark my own time – which is not always in step with the rest of the world. But, I am learning to love myself anyways – even the messy bits – in truly magical moments.

And then…last week I had the most amazing week filled with all good things!!! And I realized (once again) that I need to make my own magic! We all do!

It’s the magic of unexpected surprises! And so – imagine my absolute and extreme delight (there is not better word) than to receive a package in my mailbox from someone I have never met in person but who had connected with me (and I with her) through an online monthly meeting of about 40 people. She had taken the time to surprise me with a package consisting of 3 gifts. She had taken the time to notice how fun it was to give and receive! And she had been creative in sending it – adding the same element as my Gifts from the Glen boxes! How fun!!! And so unexpected! And I followed my own advice and took the time to unwrap each gift carefully and thoughtfully. Care*Create*Connect! She really gets me! Thank you Laura for this and I hope we meet one day in person!!!

On Friday I took myself on a little road trip to buy some wedding gifts for upcoming events we may or may not be attending. It was the perfect day for a ride in the country and I carefully planned my playlist and hopped in my new car (a gift for my 55 birthday – which I adore!) and headed out for an afternoon of fun with just myself and my songs and thoughts. My first stop was to pop in to find Melissa at Raging Bowl Pottery. Her beautiful works of art are featured in my current Gifts from the Glen box. She lives on her family’s lavender farm which she told me would be opening in a few weeks. She asked if I minded the drive and I said that I remembered my parents taking Sunday drives in the country (back when nothing was open on Sundays) and now I can see what the pleasure was in doing them. She said her parents used to do the same thing – they called it Crop Cruising! Love that!!!

Then I was on to visit Dori Lynn – owner of Cottage North Soapworks in Port Dover. I also met Dori Lynn through the gift boxes and knew that I would find some great treasures at her store (which is open for curbside only right now….but I can shop that way 😊!) There was a line up at Dori Lynn’s door and it turns out, she was selling (at cost) beautiful bouquets of hand-cut fresh seasonal flowers that had been hand tied by Creekside Growers in nearby Delhi. She was sold out, unfortunately, but with no time frame to be home by, I decided to take a small side-trip to Delhi to get my own and check out the farm. I was not disappointed and discovered they also do Christmas arrangements and more!!! I will be back there for sure!

On my way home, I made a stop at Barrie’s asparagus to pick up asparagus for myself and a few neighbours (an unexpected “magical” surprise for them too). I had a lovely visit with Hannah, Tim Barrie’s daughter, and headed home with my heart full of gratitude and wonder! It was an absolutely perfect early summer day – spent enjoying the scenery, the music, amazing people and time with myself.

And, as many of you know, Paul is a Deadhead. So, of course my playlist included listening to some Grateful Dead songs. And funnily, this song has spun around on several playlists as we listened and worked this weekend and I thought it would be appropriate to share. It’s called “Ripple” and I am not sure which version I like best so I’m sharing several with you today.

May the magic of unexpected surprises catch you every day this week – and may you look to create your own magic so that it can return to you!
